Ms. Dawn D. Bowles, M.Ed.

Our Founder

Ms. Dawn Bowles is a native of Petersburg, Virginia, and a product of the Petersburg Public School System. She has served in the fields of both education and the Gospel ministry, for more than twenty-five years, and her educational and ministerial careers have allowed her to be used by God throughout the United States.

As a proud HBCU graduate, Ms. Bowles attended Hampton University and Virginia State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Education. Post graduate studies enabled her to attend Yale Divinity School, University of Missouri, American Intercontinental University, and Walden University, earning a Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction. She is currently pursuing the Doctor of Education Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration.

Ms. Bowles is a champion for equity and student rights, and a true practitioner of varied pedagogical techniques. She has served education through the arts, as an acclaimed Director of Bands, and she holds years of classroom and administrative education experience, ranging from primary to collegiate levels.

Noted as a transformational leader and school turnaround specialist with an emphasis on Social and Personal Responsibility, Ms. Bowles has successfully worked to change the trajectory of life for trauma-informed students and families, as well as challenge the status quo in defining what true academic excellence can look like and how it can be achieved. In addition to being a dedicated and caring educator, Ms. Bowles is the founder of the Proud to Partner Community in Schools Initiative of Huntsville, Alabama. She has received multiple leadership and community service accolades across the U.S., viewing every opportunity to work with people as her ministry. Most recently, she was awarded the “Outstanding Women in Our Community” Award from the Oklahoma City Chapter of Chums, Incorporated.

Dr. Sharri Coleman
Board Chair

A dynamic speaker, published author, professor, and trained podiatrist, Dr. Coleman is dedicated to empowering
individuals through education and
mentorship. A distinguished graduate of Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, Phillips Theological Seminary, and a proud HBCU graduate of Spelman College. Deviating from her medical career, she has served as a secondary Chemistry teacher,
internship counselor, and school
counselor, building community
relationships and partnerships. Dr.
Coleman is presently a professor at the University of Oklahoma.

Barbara Jaramillo
Board Vice-Chair

Vice Chair Barbara Jaramillo joins the PTPLA team, which has more than 25 years of educational experience developing and implementing initiatives to improve academic achievement.  As a classroom teacher, she specialized in Spanish, ELL, and Bilingual services, contributing to Oklahoma City Public School District, Putnam City Schools, and Millwood Public School. Noted for her commitment to leadership, Ms. Jaramillo served as a secondary administrator on the middle and high school levels in the greater Oklahoma City area.  Upon her most recent assignment as Dean of Instruction, she now serves as an Assistant Principal at Alcott Middle School of Norman Public School.  Serving with passion and a heart for kids and families, she believes in the transformative power of building authentic relationships.  "Ms. J" brings a wealth of knowledge as a proud graduate of Rose State College, the University of Central Oklahoma, and the University of Oklahoma.

Charlesetta Jossell
Board Secretary

Charlesetta Jossell is a seasoned professional distinguished by her leadership and community engagement. With expertise in fundraising and administration, she has led campaigns to fuel school expansion. Her dedication to education is evident in her role as a teacher during the pandemic and as an Educator with VIPKids. Charlesetta's entrepreneurial spirit led her to found "God's Natural Touch" and manage pop-up shop booths nationwide. She is a proud HBCU graduate of Lincoln University committed to making a positive difference in every endeavor and driven to see everyone succeed.

Marva Williamson
Board Treasurer
 

As a State of Oklahoma Certified Procurement Officer, Ms. Marva Williamson brings unmatched experience to the PTPLA team as Board Treasurer.  She is a retired administrator of state, federal, and foundation grant-funded programs, and her extensive background in project management, procurement and purchasing, contract administration, and negotiation with state agencies and non-profit and faith-based organizations makes her a perfect fit.  Always searching for an avenue to serve families of OKC, Ms. Williamson has served as the Director of Program Operations and Services for Youth Services For Oklahoma County, Oklahoma County Crisis Intervention Center, Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City, and Oklahoma City Public School District.  A proud graduate of Oklahoma City University and the University of Oklahoma, Ms. Williamson currently serves as a Contact Tracer on the OKCPS COVID-19 Response Team.

Paulette Hunnicut

Paulette Hunnicut joins the PTPLA team as an advocate for students' and family rights.  Although an impressive background in Business Administration, she soon found her true passion to be in education.  Her classroom experience as a science teacher has helped to shape her understanding of the need for collaboration and active and exploratory learning.  An East Coast native, Mrs. Hunnicut is a proud HBCU graduate of North Carolina Central University.  She currently serves as a middle school Instructional Coach.  Additionally, as an acclaimed State of Oklahoma and nationally recognized athlete, she also serves as a high school track coach.
